Welcome to the May edition of the HPMA membership newsletter.
The winners of the 2015 HPMA Excellence in HRM awards were East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust HR team who were described by the judges as ‘a credit to the service and the profession’.
An innovative, fresh and comprehensive suite of five leadership development programmes was created for every level of leadership across the trust to replace a piecemeal programme of ad hoc programmes. Many trust-wide initiatives were also designed to change the trust’s culture and improve the engagement of staff.
The judges felt the team truly demonstrated excellence in HR and the enthusiasm displayed by them was ‘palpable’.

The deputy director of the year was Joan Peden from Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and the HR director of the year was Jinjer Kandola from Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
A special award, Special achievement for work on the patient experience, was won by Jackie Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer; Kevin Croft, Director of People & OD; Meriam Islam, Junior Doctor; and Susie Mallinder Head of Nursing at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust for their Patient First project.
The President’s award for outstanding lifetime achievement went to Professor Michael West.
