NHS Employers has published new guidance for employers to promote the use of traineeships in the NHS.
Traineeships are designed to equip young people with the skills, confidence and attitudes necessary to thrive in a professional environment. When used as part of a holistic strategy, they can be a very effective means for harnessing young talent, and helping employers to manage the workforce supply challenges the NHS is facing.
Although the nationwide traineeship programme is government-led, employers and education providers have a responsibility to ensure that trainees are provided with meaningful, high quality and authentic work experience. This publication offers guidance about the benefits and practicalities of providing traineeships in the health service.

Along with a wealth of advice about creating sustainable workforce strategies, NHS Employers offers support to health service providers employing young people. They have recently started a programme of work to support you to recruit more 16-24 year olds into support roles in the NHS.
More information on this work will be available soon.
