This issue brings you a round-up from our UK Conference in Manchester last month with articles fr
Since its re-launch in 2013, the West Midlands HPMA Branch has aimed to share excellent HR practice within the region and beyond. Our ambition has been to swell the number of applications for the prestigious HPMA National Awards from our region, and ultimately increase the number of trusts who could be shortlisted and crowned worthy winners.
This was not intended as an egotistical desire for a greater West Midlands profile (well partly!) – but because part of our ‘being’ as HPMA is to recognise, share, celebrate and inspire excellence in HR.
As part of our aims, this year we decided to hold a West Midlands HPMA Awards 2015 Showcase Event where seven of the 2015 award submissions were shared with a wider audience.
We had excellent evaluation from the event – not only from the happy sheets, but more importantly from the buzz of energy on the day and in subsequent reflective conversations. Colleagues felt inspired and motivated to go back to their organisations and apply the learning.
The diversity and breadth of the presentations was a significant factor – presentations included Staff Side Partnership working in relation to streamlined disciplinary processes from University Hospitals Birmingham, while Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust shared their journey in developing ESR competencies and Management Dashboard. North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare presented lessons learnt from a redesign project based on staff engagement and also their approach to team-based working.
The event was a great success and I hope that others among you will be inspired to do something similar. These are the four key things we think can be achieved:
· It provides further opportunity for celebration for the shortlisted entrants and gives a sense of supportive recognition from their peers
· It provides transferable lessons learnt and those small, but all so important, take away tips, which can make a difference to HR practice and people management
· It inspires others to continue to strive for HR excellence in their own workplace
· It motivates other HR teams to recognise their own best practice and to consider sharing that through submission to the 2016 HPMA Awards
Thanks go to TMP Worldwide for their sponsorship of the event.
