There was double celebration at the 2016 HPMA Excellence in HRM awards for the Health and Social Care Sector in NI which took place at The Westminster Park Plaza in London on Thursday 30 June, hosted by Jeannette Crisp. Over 470 guests gathered to celebrate the talented HR healthcare teams from across the UK.
Firstly, Kieran Donaghy - Director of Human Resources and OD at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, took the prestigious Director of HR award sponsored by Harvey Nash.
Kieran Donaghy has worked within Human Resources in Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland for almost 40 years, has been a Director of HR for 26 years and since 2007 has held the post of Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. During the past year, the role of Deputy Chief Executive was added to his portfolio.
Then there was HR team of the year, sponsored by The Welsh Government and NHS England won by South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. Claire Smyth, HR Business Partner, and Elaine O’Neill, Recruitment Manager represented the Trust at the awards ceremony.
The HR Team at South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust were put to the challenge under extremely demanding measures when a late political settlement on the budget in 2014 meant the Trust had to achieve a saving of £5m before March 2015. The team rose to these vast challenges and HR demonstrated exceptional team working to achieve every objective. The judges were impressed by the team’s response to significant change, showing high levels of resilience and collaboration.
