It's Monday 7am, following a much needed week's holiday, and I'm on the tube checking my diary for the week and beyond, planning priorities and clearing the numerous emails that have cumulated. I'm also thinking about my team, eager to know how they are, especially given some current issues they are managing and knowing that some were attending meetings for me. This included a first attendance at Trust Board for Natalie, my Associate Director of OD, which whilst being good development can be nerve racking at first!

At the end of April, I was delighted to see so many of our members, vice presidents of branches, partners from across the health system, commercial partners and sponsors and supporters at our event to launch the new national HPMA Vision and Strategy – you can find out more here and watch the event report here.
When I took over the Presidency I, with the deputies team and national council, agreed it was important to review our vision, mission and strategy for next few years. Over the Summer we will be refining some of the proposals with council and consulting with members with a view to agreeing a refreshed strategy in the Autumn.

Thoughts from the workforce summit
Last week I went to the workforce summit in Liverpool organised by NHS Employers. This year it was part of the NHS Confederation conference which recognised that 'the workforce', our people, are central to everything we do. Danny Mortimer, Chief Executive of NHS Employers talked to us about the key strategic workforce challenges and the Five Year Forward View.
